Terms of Service

Contents

1. Agreement to terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of PaperPilot's website, applications, and related services (the "Service"). By creating an account, signing in, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Eligibility and accounts

You must be at least 13 years old, or the age of digital consent in your jurisdiction, to create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us promptly at ren@papercoaches.com if you suspect unauthorized access.

3. The service

PaperPilot provides AI-assisted tools for academic writing — outline generation, draft assistance, citation lookup and verification, and originality reports. Output is produced by combining your prompts with general-purpose language models and academic search engines. Output may be inaccurate, incomplete, or biased; you are responsible for reviewing and verifying anything you publish or submit elsewhere.

4. User content and ownership

"User Content" means any text, prompts, references, files, or other material you upload, submit, or generate through the Service. You retain all ownership rights in your User Content, including manuscripts you produce with PaperPilot. We claim no ownership over output generated for you.

5. License to PaperPilot

You grant PaperPilot a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, transmit, display, and process your User Content solely to operate, secure, and improve the Service for you. We do not use your manuscripts or reference files to train foundation models.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules. Repeat or severe violations may result in permanent loss of access without refund.

7. Academic integrity

PaperPilot is a writing assistant. It is your responsibility to comply with the academic-integrity policies of your institution, journal, or examination body. We strongly recommend you disclose AI assistance where required, verify all citations against the source materials, and treat AI-generated text as a starting point — not a final submission.

8. Subscriptions and payments

Paid plans are billed in advance on a monthly or annual basis through our payment processor. Prices, features, and quotas are described on our pricing page and may change for future billing cycles with at least 14 days' notice. Taxes are added where applicable.

9. Refunds and cancellations

You may cancel a subscription at any time from Settings → Billing. Cancellation stops the next renewal; you retain access through the end of the current billing period. We offer a 14-day money-back guarantee on first-time annual plans if you contact ren@papercoaches.com within 14 days of purchase. Monthly plans are non-refundable.

10. Termination

You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, if required by law, or if your account is inactive for more than 24 months. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends immediately; sections that by nature should survive termination (ownership, disclaimers, liability) will continue.

11. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that output will be accurate, complete, or suitable for any particular use.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, PaperPilot shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or academic outcomes, arising from or relating to your use of the Service. Our aggregate liability for any claim shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, or (b) USD 100.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which PaperPilot Inc. is incorporated, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Disputes shall be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction unless applicable consumer-protection law gives you the right to bring a claim in your home jurisdiction.

14. Changes

We may revise these Terms from time to time. Material changes take effect at least 14 days after we post the updated Terms or notify you by email, whichever is later. Continued use of the Service after the effective date means you accept the revised Terms.
